Astrology: What to expect in February…
February is just around the corner (Friday), so what better time to bring you an atstrological glance into the month ahead? Today, Diane Cramer, consulting astrologer, lecturer and teacher in New York shares her top tips for February.
Introduction
Medical Astrology is an ancient system that dates back to 2000 B.C. The medical astrologer uses the horoscope (birth chart) of an individual to point out strengths and weaknesses in the body, nutritional deficiencies and proneness to various health problems. It can be considered alternative medicine, as based on various planetary combinations in the birth chart, the medical astrologer can point out effective treatment options, as well as forecast potential times of stress. Medical astrology can not be used to diagnose disease. The medical astrologer can point you to a health practitioner in tune with your chart.
February 2013
Knowing your Sun Sign is a step toward understanding your body, as each sign has specific health issues and nutritional needs. The Sun will be in Aquarius until February 19. Aquarius is an air sign, social and intellectual. Aquarius, has a strong constitution but can become high strung and restlessness due to a high amount of nervous energy. Aquarius needs quiet times alone, as well as a good night’s sleep to recharge the nervous system. Aquarius may experience circulatory complaints and can also be affected by barometric pressure changes and may change mood according to the prevailing weather.
Aquarius has its own style of eating and may not always eat regularly or properly thus causing a lack of proper nutrition. Salt is important to Aquarius as salt conducts electricity and Aquarius, which is ruled by Uranus, is involved with the electrical system of the body. As a sign of oxygenation, Aquarius would do well to spend as much time as possible in the open air and benefits from such exercises as bicycling, yoga, and deep breathing. Aquarius should include in the diet fruits, honey, lemons, apples and cheese.
Aquarius can benefit from bergamot for relaxation, valerian for nervousness, borage for sprains and to cleanse the bloodstream, dandelion, nettles or rosemary for blood circulation, and caraway for a sprained limb.
Tips for air signs
Aquarius is an air sign, but all air signs – Gemini, Libra and Aquarius benefit from good nutrition and some grounding techniques, such as mineral baths, weight lifting and eating root foods.
Get plenty of fresh air to keep the body oxygenated. Do breathing exercises. Incorporate water therapies such as swimming, nautical activities or hot baths. Socialize, as air signs need to interact with other people on a regular basis.
Monthly forecast
Each month brings with it new planetary combinations, in addition to the monthly lunar cycle. Any and all of the combinations that form can affect your personal health as well as that of your community, the part of the country that you live in and even global events.
The New Moon this month on February 10 is in Aquarius. Aquarius is the natural house of hopes and wishes and this is a good time to set goals for the year. Aquarius is an air sign ruling the circulation and electrical system of the body.
Aquarius can be erratic energy and there can be an imbalance of electrolytes at this time. Broccoli, cabbage, chervil, endives and mushrooms are effective body mineralizers and can help restore balance. Oils such as juniper and rosemary stimulate the circulation.
A New Moon in Aquarius is also a god time to start a new mental project. Flashes of creativity are sometimes associated with eating chocolate or drinking wine, coffee, tea or beer. Obviously, these should be used in moderation.
In view of this being the time of year for increased respiratory ailments, there are two planetary combinations to note:
On February 4 Mars and Neptune are conjunct in Pisces which can be an infectious combination. This is a good time to build up your immune system. Avoid large crowds as you are more prone to infection as well as the ill effects of pollution or chemicals. Lemons are effective against germs. Garlic and onions help fight infection. Astragalus, rosemary, garlic, rose hips, and bioflavonoids are immune enhancers.
This is also a good time for a blood purifier such as red clover or borage tea and increasing iron-rich foods. Foods that contain iron include apples, apricots, beets, blueberries, lentils, raisins, red cabbage and many more.
There can be adverse reactions to chemicals now so avoid using products that give off toxic fumes. Also at this time there can be misdiagnosis of illness, wrong medication and a proneness to stress-related ailments. Muscles can be weak and need to be built up. Almonds are a muscle building food and avocados and coconuts are body-building foods. Raisins are a good energy food.
On February 21 the Sun is conjunct Neptune. You may find yourself easily drained with less energy than usual. There can be eye problems. There can be misdiagnosis or a reaction to new medication. Garlic is a stimulant and ginseng can relieve exhaustion. Eyebright tea can be used as an eyewash. A compress of fennel seeds boiled in water can relieve eye inflammation. See your eye doctor for any serious eye disorders.
Immune system
Continue to build up your immune system as this is another infectious combination similar to February 4. In terms of mental acuity, there are two days to note: On February 6 Mercury, the planet of the mind, is conjunct Neptune, a planet associated with fantasy and escapism. This can be a day of mental confusion leading to absent-mindedness and confused thoughts. You can also be easily drained from negative energy emitted by people in your immediate environment. You can also be experiencing irrational fears.
Protein-rich foods are an aid to the memory. The menthol in peppermint tea is a natural stimulant to the mind. The herb rosemary is said to sharpen the memory.
On February 26 mental Mercury is conjunct active Mars. You may find yourself on the run, experiencing nervous exhaustion from trying to do too many things at once. This can lead to insomnia. Chamomile tea and clove tea help soothe the nerves. Nervous haste can lead to a nervous stomach or an overly acid stomach. You need to limit intake of spicy foods. Include more toward alkaline foods in your diet such as green leafy vegetables, broccoli and spinach for a few days.
