Injured on the sports field? Bring on the homeopathy!
“When using Homeopathy directly on the soccer field, I find that the results are almost immediate.” – Doctor Jean-Marcel Ferrett, doctor to the French soccer team from 1993 to 2004
Homeopathy is a great sports medicine and has been used in elite sport circles in Europe for a number of years. Unfortunately, the benefits of using homeopathic medicines for sports-related health concerns are still not widely known.
Particular benefits in treating sports injuries with homeopathy include:
- Rapid healing and recovery time
- No side effects
- Don’t register in drug testing protocols
- Immediate administration at time of injury
Homeopathic medicines can also be used preventively before undertaking a particular sporting activity to strengthen muscles, tendons and ligaments against injury. Many injury scenarios can be treated homeopathically including sprains, strains, fractures, head traumas, cuts, wounds and recovery after exercise.
Homeopathy treats the whole person by stimulating an individual’s Chi or Vital Force. This in turn activates the body’s natural healing mechanisms. This strengthens a person in both mind and body, thus maximizing their wellness on and off the sporting arena.
I have treated numerous sports injuries in my clinic and am passionate about the incorporation of homeopathy into elite sport in Australia. I remember clearly the Australian Tennis Open in 2006. Justine Henin-Hardenne withdrew from the final due to the side effects of drugs she was taking for injury:
“For two weeks I have had to take anti-inflammatories for my shoulder, and that killed me,” she said after quitting at 6-1, 2-0 down. “I had to double the dose the last few days because it was so painful.” (The Guardian, Monday, 30 January 2006)
Treating sports injuries with homeopathic medicines produce no side effects, which is a huge advantage over pharmaceutical drugs. With the increasing performance demands on professional athletes in the modern era, balancing injury treatment and drug side effects is an increasingly pressing issue. So is not falling foul of drug testing protocols.
There are many wonderful homeopathic medicines which can treat sports injuries. Let’s focus on one of those here. For a more complete list go to my homeopathy website – www.livingwater.net.au and click on the Remedy Finder/Sport links.
Arnica Montana is the ‘king’ of homeopathic sports remedies and should be the first remedy given in every case of injury.
It can also be used in its physical tincture state and incorporated into creams, but a far more effective way to take it is as a Homeopathic dose. This is because it immediately acts on a person’s Vital Force and produces quicker, more effective results.
It specifically treats physical injury where the typical sore, bruised feeling is present. Pains are worse for the slightest touch (often the person will not want to be touched at the sight of injury) and relief is gained from cold applications such as an ice pack.
It is also an effective remedy for sore muscles, muscle corks, head injury, cramps, bruises, sprains and strains.
Homeopathic Arnica has a four-fold action whereby it:
- Relieves pain
- Absorbs internal bleeding rapidly
- Reduces swelling
- Prevents pus formation
This is why it can be of great benefit when given immediately after an injury and can significantly reduce injury recovery time. After Arnica has done its work, then it can be followed by another homeopathic remedy, if it is indicated, to complete the recovery process.
Arnica can also be taken preventatively before undertaking a sport activity to protect against injury.
A few years back I treated an Australian Rules Football team for an entire season. They took Arnica routinely before and after each game. By their first training session early in each week, much of the soreness and bruising that usually still lingered was gone! They had become used to carrying some soreness and bruising into the following game each week.
So all you sports participants, get yourself some homeopathic Arnica to put in your sports bag.
