Lashings of ginger beer!
Anyone who has ever read any Enid Blyton stories will be familiar with the phrase “lashings of ginger beer.”
After all, too many store-bought sodas contain ingredients we would rather not be drinking – aspartame for one.
To make Ginger Beer you will need:
1 cup of natural brown, organic sugar
freshly grated ginger root ( around 1 1/2-2 tablespoons) – fresh ginger root is definitely the best
freshly squeezed juice of one lemon
1/4 tsp baker’s yeast
cold fresh spring or filtered water
clean 2L plastic bottle
Right, here we go . . .
Through the funnel, add the sugar and the yeast to the plastic bottle. Mix grated ginger root and lemon juice and then transfer it to the bottle.
Add enough water to fill it half way and shake well to mix all ingredients.
Add more water, leaving about an inch head space, screw the cap on and shake again. (You can also mix all the ingredients in a jar and then transfer to the bottle.)
Leave in a warm place for about two days and then transfer to refrigerator, to stop fermentation process. Refrigerate overnight.
If you don’t like the bits, you can pour it through a strainer.
NaturalCures’ tip: Be careful when you open the bottle because it will be very fizzy!
